The inspiration for our Spring/Summer 2012 collection comes from the clash of two very different cultures that took place in Marrakech in the late ‘60s and early ’70s.
At that time, Marrakech was a major stopover on the so-called ‘Hippy trail’ that an increasing number of freethinking Londoners were taking to India. But many of them didn’t make it as far as India, instead opting to stay in Morocco, which, although geographically close to Europe, offered sights, sounds, experiences and sensations that were a million miles away from home.
Marrakech fast became the centre of this community and began to attract a truly eclectic mix of people from high society to rock stars and playwrights to photographers – creative, eccentric, stylish people with a desire to absorb everything their adopted new culture had to offer.
Savile Rock the Kasbah is inspired by how a free spirited group of people created something uniquely British by adopting and adapting an exciting alien culture.
The colours and patterns of Marrakech are very evident in this collection, with burnt orange, vivid indigo and bright turquoise featuring as accent colours in strong geometric prints on shirts and ties that clash beautifully with block coloured raw silks and cottons. That and the slightly flamboyant 70s cut and feel impart a strong sense of glamour.
As the sun begins to set on the Kasbah, be prepared to Savile Rock.
